Leather Corset

Description

Here is my finished leather corset. It is an overbust corset. Materials used include Leather (which I got from my mom's old leather jack, so all the leather has been upcycled), Cotton fabric lining, 22 two part eyelets, 6 pieces of flat steel, 18 pieces of spiral steel, busk, 3 packages of bias tape, and 5 yards of ribbon. It took about 2 weeks total to make, which includes cutting out all the fabric (I had to cut out the lining twice because the first one got messed up), waiting for various items to make in. I have to order just about everything online except for my fabric. I really love how this corset turned out and wear it just about everyday.

I have actually decided to enter it into :iconlions-nd-yellocake:'s contest [link]

For this contest, she has asked people to make something that has been inspired by her. It is hard for me to say how many ways she has inspired me. She has inspired me not only as an artist, but as a person as well. For those of you that know lions-nd-yellocake, you know what a truly kind and giving person she is.

Before she came into my life as a wonderful friend, I did not care much about my art. I just submitted whatever I felt like, not caring if the image quality was good or if it truly showed off the extent of my talent in the artisan crafts.

Thanks to her, I have cleaned up my gallery, and I finally have a focus on what I want to do with my deviantArt page. She has shown me that people really do care about the pieces that I make and care about me as a person.

As an artist, she has inspired me to try new things, to venture out of my comfort zone. This corset was definitely way out of my comfort zone. I was working with a pattern that I had never used, as well as working with a fabric that I have never dreamed that I would feel confident enough to work with.

One of the biggest things that she has inspired me to do is to just go with the flow, that while I might make mistakes, I can turn around and turn them into something that is even more amazing than I thought possible. I look at her work and think that maybe one day, I will be able to create such beautiful pieces without having to rely on patterns. That perhaps one day, I will create just as stunning pieces as she has in her gallery.

I am so thankful that I have such an amazing friend in her, and that she has faith in me as a fellow artist.
